Our Purpose Statement and Theme Verse for 2012 is:

Holding fast to Christ, the head of the church, through whom we seek the growth that is from God (Colossians 2:19)

The reason why we chose this statement and text is because it captures well not only the way to salvation (taking hold of Christ by faith), but also the way of the Christian life and church growth.  The Christian life and church growth are not defined by our methods or expectations.  Rather, biblical spiritual and church growth are defined by God and his Word.  Our prayer is that this year we might as a congregation and as individual believers grow with God-growth as we walk by faith in the Son of God, who has loved us and gave his life for us.  For we seek and pray that we might grow deep in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Christ, and in so doing also seek to extend his kingdom as wide as the water covers the seas.

The purpose statement for 2011 was:

To behold the all-sufficiency and awesome excellency of Christ and his Word

This year, of course, we do not leave behind this statement, but build on top of it.  We believe that Jesus Christ and his Word really are sufficient - and all we need - for life and godliness.  During the good times and the hard times, Christ and his Word are awesome, excellent, and sufficient to comfort us.  We are tempted to look elsewhere for our help and strength. We are tempted to look for support and help in the things of this world, rather than in Jesus and his Bible.  But Christ and his Word really are  sufficient - all-sufficient! - for us in our time of need.
